Owners followed one another with varying degrees of success. In the 19th century, the Lamothe estate belonged to Monsieur d'Elbauve, who also owned the beautiful and ancient Vertheuil Abbey.
At the end of the 1950s, the owner gradually abandoned wine, convinced that a treasure was hidden in the château. He searches for it, but finds nothing...
When Gabriel Fabre returned from Morocco and bought the estate in 1964, wine production had ceased. The 33 hectares of vines that today make up the Château Lamothe vineyard were planted in April 1967 on a clay-limestone hilltop and a gravel “motte”.
In 1976, Gabriel FABRE purchased the Château Landat vineyards in the adjacent commune of Vertheuil. In the Middle Ages, this estate belonged to the very powerful Vertheuil Abbey.
In 1982, Vincent took over the La Tonnelle estate, a vineyard that belonged to the renowned Château Picourneau in the 19th century. He began his career as a winegrower alongside his father.
After Gabriel Fabre's death, his children took up the torch. Major work was carried out in the various vats and cellars in 1996 and 1999 to improve the winemaking facilities. Today, the buildings offer a high-quality workspace with modern equipment.
In 2007, Vincent FABRE and his wife decided to take over the overall management of Domaines FABRE. Today, they manage over 90 hectares of vines on three different properties.
Mélanie and Jean-Hubert have joined them in this wonderful family adventure, and are keen to continue the development of Domaines Fabre by stimulating new ideas for cuvées and extending the Domaines Fabre brand's influence.
